About the College - College of Nurses of Sri Lanka
The College of Nurses of Sri Lanka (CNSL) is a professional organization committed to advancing the nursing profession and strengthening the contribution of nurses to the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, communities, and populations.
The College provides a professional platform for nurses, nurse educators, researchers, leaders, and other stakeholders to collaborate in advancing excellence in nursing practice, education, research, leadership, and policy.
The College is committed to promoting a highly competent, respected, innovative, and evidence-informed nursing workforce capable of responding to the evolving healthcare needs of Sri Lanka.
Through professional engagement, capacity building, continuing professional development, research, advocacy, and national and international collaboration, the College aims to contribute to the advancement and recognition of nursing as a vital profession within the healthcare system.
PRIMARY OBJECTS
To achieve and maintain the highest standards and safety of clinical practice of Nursing in the country.
To advance knowledge, skills, and attitudes of, and promote research evidence-based practice in Nursing in the country.
To provide advocacy on education and practice in Nursing in the country.
To promote fellowship among those associated with the education and practice of Nursing in the country.
To promote networking and interdisciplinary collaborations
To invest the money or funds of the College not immediately required for its purposes in or on such investments, securities, and/or property as may be thought fit, subject nevertheless to such conditions as may for the time be imposed by law.
THE GOVERNING COUNCIL
The Governing Council of the College will be appointed annually at the Annual General Meeting for a period of one year. The Governing Council so appointed shall continue until the next Annual General Meeting. However, before expiration of the term, all or any one or more of them may resign on their own or be removed by special resolution by the Members. All the Governing Council members shall have voting rights. The Governing Council shall consist of twenty-nine members comprised as follows:-

- The three principals from NTS and PBS principal

MEMBERS OF THE COLLEGE
The college shall consist of the following categories of Members
FOUNDER MEMBERS
A specialist in Nursing who applied for membership within one month of the inaugural meeting and has been enrolled as a Member.
ORDINARY MEMBERS
Any registered Nurse who is a Master's or above in a recognized University from a body recognized by the College and who has applied for membership may be duly elected by the Council as an Ordinary Member.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Any registered Nurse who has enrolled as a postgraduate trainee from a body recognized by the College and who has applied for membership may be duly elected by the Council as an Associate Member. The associate members shall not be eligible to hold any office and shall not be entitled to vote at meetings of the College. The associate membership should be renewed annually by paying the membership fee.
FELLOWS
The College may, from time to time admit on the recommendation of the Governing Council Associate /ordinary Members who have fulfilled criteria laid down by the Governing Council as fellows of the College. Such fellows shall be eligible to hold any office and shall be eligible to vote at meetings of the College.
HONORARY FELLOWS
The College may from time to time, admit, on the recommendation of the Governing Council, distinguished non-nursing professionals as honorary Fellows of the College in recognition of their exceptional service to the specialty of nursing. Such Honorary Fellows shall not be eligible to hold any office and shall not be entitled to vote at meetings of the College.
